About Scott Brownrigg

Scott Brownrigg is a collaborative international design practice specialising in architecture, masterplanning, urbanism and interior design, enriching lives through the built environment.

The business can trace their origins back to 1910 when Annesley Harold Brownrigg (1882-1935) wins a series of architectural competitions and sets up shop. In 1918, after serving as a major in the Royal Garrison Artillery in the War, Brownrigg builds a flourishing practice in Guildford with Leslie Hiscock – expanding to include industrial, commercial, educational and recreational projects.

Latterly the organisation has been responsible for designing high-profile projects such as Heathrow Airports Terminal 4 and BBC Headquarters in White City.

With offices in the UK, Edinburgh, Singapore, New York and Amsterdam, the centre of expertise within Scott Brownrigg, the Design Research Unit, represents the leading edge of the businesses thinking. It powers change here and across the industry through collaboration and open-source intelligence.

The Challenge

As a leading Architecture practice, Scott Brownrigg has offices in locations across the globe, with each one storing and processing large volumes of CAD project data.

In each location where they operate, the business needs an infrastructure capable of supporting the performance and capacity demands of the data processed, as well as having a consistent data protection model across the sites.

Something simple to operate, manageable centrally is crucial.

As a global organisation, collaboration across disciplines and business units on a worldwide scale is one of the keys to Scott Brownrigg’s success when it comes to delivering client projects. As the organisation continued to grow, supporting this was a key issue faced by the IT team at Scott Brownrigg.

The management of data is time-consuming and costly, and the need to collaborate has led to the duplication and replication of data. Combined with the need to manually move data between locations to support collaborative work, this led to a loss of productivity in terms of project delivery, with the ongoing management and replication of data causing slow-downs.

Scott Brownrigg needed a partner that understood new approaches, focussed on their requirements, and that could deliver a modern infrastructure approach to provide:

–  Centralised infrastructure management

–  An infrastructure that could scale with demand

–  A commercial model that better aligns cost and performance

–  A means of global collaboration without the need to replicate or duplicate data

The Nephos Solution

Nephos Technologies’ independent and consultative approach saw us working closely with Scott Brownrigg to understand their challenges and businesses workflow to deliver a solution that could meet the needs of the company for the short and long-term.

Our unique experience in delivering collaboration platforms capable of supporting the unique data challenges faced by Architectural practices provided valuable insight for Scott Brownrigg when it came to developing a fit for purpose data management and infrastructure strategy.

To overcome the challenges that Scott Brownrigg faced, Nephos delivered a hybrid-Cloud infrastructure platform to support both remote office infrastructure and collaboration use cases.  By utilising Hyperconverged technologies, Nephos were able to reduce the overall infrastructure management burden for remote locations through consolidation, as well as providing a solution that could scale incrementally.

Through the combination of public Cloud storage and edge caching technology, Nephos delivered a solution to reduce Scott Brownriggs data management burden and deliver a single unified global file system to enable users to collaborate more efficiently across the globe.  All of this without the need to duplicate or replicate data, or worry about complicated archive strategies and with integrated backup for critical data.

Their response has been fantastic in every instance that we’ve needed them.

I’d be more than happy to recommend them to anyone!
